Jonathan was a teenager when he joined Nashville’s Centennial Park Drum Circle.
This ever-evolving vortex of rhythm exposed him to a variety of African and Latin instruments and drumming styles.
By the time Jonathan graduated high school, he was studying Rock, African, and Latin percussion. And had started a small business building and repairing many types of ethnic drums including ashikos, djembes, dun-duns, talking drums and more.
Jonathan attended Middle Tennessee State University and was fortunate to study under world famous Latin musician, educator, author and composer, Lalo Davilla; eventually earning himself a bachelor’s degree from MTSU with in Recording Business with a Minor in Percussion.
Jonathan’s diverse musical sensibilities has given him the opportunity to perform and record a wide variety of musical acts ranging in style from Celtic, Jazz, Latin Jazz and Salsa to Rock & Roll and Tribal Fusion World Beat. Jonathan has had the opportunity to perform with many great musicians including Haracio Hernandes (Michel Camilo, Carlos Santana), Richie Gajate-Garcia (Sting, Phil Collins), and Jeff Coffin (Bela Fleck).
Beside performing and recording with RhythMystik, Jonathan is occasionally seen onstage with various acts including The Loves Drums, Tribe of Praise (gospel choir), Jamie Liana, Shauna P & Earth Funk Tribe, and more.
Jonathan also works as a computer systems analyst and network technician; specializing in creating problem solving, customer relations, and systems management. Jonathan also enjoys all types of artwork from painting and sculpture to graphic design and web development.
